Bears Bits: Gut Check Time, Harrison vs. Odunze, Red Zone Battle, More

If Matt Eberflus and Shane Waldron aren't interested in conversations regarding their decisions and competency, they'd better win in Arizona this week.

It’s been a tumultuous week in Bears fandom. Since Caleb Williams was drafted in April, it’s been anything but. Even in the first three weeks before the offense began to click, the negativity didn’t reach the level it did this week.

I attribute the heightened frustration to the expectations surrounding the team. And let’s be clear: The Bears set these expectations. They talked themselves up, and they validated all of the fan base’s expectations during training camp. These aren’t fan-fiction narratives that Head Coach Matt Eberflus’ group isn’t entirely living up to. These are their expectations.

Beating Washington was an expectation, as was winning a game you led with less than a minute left, regardless of the opponent. Neither of those expectations was met on Sunday, so I don’t want to hear any water-carrying for a club that made its bed in the leadup to the season. The Bears wrote a check leading up to their season that they’re having trouble cashing, and I’m not going to feel bad for them when things get loud outside the building. Neither should you.
