Bears Bye Week Thoughts
A
With the Bears on the bye this week, we’ve got no Friday preview, so I thought I would take the opportunity to reflect on some thoughts I have regarding the season’s first month. Here’s a six-pack of thoughts and observations before we head into Week 6 and begin previewing Chicago’s matchup with the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.
Caleb Williams gave Bears fans plenty of reasons for optimism in the season’s first month.
Remember when folks were calling for Tyson Bagent after Week 1? Ah, fun times. Look, I feel like I should be clear here: Out of respect for Bagent, this isn’t a shot at Chicago’s backup quarterback, rather a chuckle at the irrationality of many success-starved Bears fans who were losing their minds when Caleb Williams had an inarguably poor second-half performance against the Vikings in Week 1.
I get it. We’ve all suffered tough times as fans of this team, and many of those times have stemmed from the franchise’s inability to get the most critical position right. I also get that a lot is riding on the current quarterback and head coach pairing. I’ve also constantly cautioned overreactions—in either direction—and reminded readers that development 1) isn’t linear and 2) takes time, especially in a new, complex system.
Before we get into the details, here are Williams’ 2025 stats through four weeks, where they rank, and how they compare to his rookie season.
