Bears Cut Pair of 2023 Picks
Plus, some updates on the left tackle battle and Jaylon Johnson from Ben Johnson.
The Chicago Bears are reportedly set to part with Zacch Pickens and Tyler Scott, a pair of picks from the team’s 2023 NFL Draft class.
Zacch Pickens played 26 games in his two-year stint with the Bears. A third-round pick in 2023, Pickens finished his time in Chicago with 1.5 sacks, 39 total tackles (17 solo), 2 tackles-for-loss, and 4 quarterback hits. It was an underwhelming two seasons for Pickens, who didn’t get on the field much (264 snaps in 17 games 2023, 228 in 9 games 2024) and did not make much noise in the moments he did see the field.
Tyler Scott, a fourth-round pick in 2023, finishes his Beas career with 28 games played, 16 catches, 173 yards, and zero touchdowns scored. Not only did Scott struggle to get on the field as a wide receiver option, but he also scuffled in his time as a special teams return option. The Bears have worked hard to renovate the wide receivers’ room in the last two years. But with Luther Burden III, Olamide Zaccheaus, Devin Duvernay, and upstart rookie Jahdae Walker, Scott fell behind on the depth chart and didn’t make enough plays to recover in the preseason.
