After a rough stretch of days at Bears practice in which injuries ruled the headlines, we’re getting some of the positive news we needed.
On Friday, head coach Ben Johnson went on the Hoge and Jahns Podcast and said he doesn’t see Montez Sweat or Braxton Jones’ injuries as long-term issues. We also learned late last night from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz that second-year wide receiver Luther Burden III will miss the preseason, but is expected to be ready and available for the Bears in Week 1 when they visit the Carolina Panthers.
This morning, ESPN’s Courtney Cronin reported that rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas—who left practice early on Sunday—is dealing with knee soreness and isn’t expected to miss much time. No one wants to see injuries crop up during training camp practices, but the returns on those injuries the past few days have been mildly encouraging. Whether or not Thomas will be ready to play in Chicago’s preseason opener on Saturday remains to be seen, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
