Bears vs. Panthers Preview: “The Trade” Comes Full Circle on Sunday
Caleb Williams takes on the team that helped him land in Chicago on Sunday.
Oh, the irony that it would be if Williams had his first huge performance of the season this week against the Carolina Panthers, the team whose all-time fumble made this scenario possible.
In March 2023, Bears GM Ryan Poles pulled an all-time caper on the now-departed Panthers front office, landing wide receiver DJ Moore and a bevy of draft picks that turned into Williams, right tackle Darnell Wright, and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. In return, the Panthers received the top selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, which they used to select Bryce Young, who will be sporting a headset and a clipboard on Sunday when the Panthers come to town after being benched in favor of Andy Dalton.
Williams has made strides every week in his rookie season, but a true breakout game against the Panthers would be the ultimate exclamation point on the damage that trade has done to the Carolina franchise.
