Ben Johnson’s Changes to the Bears Offense Include a Big Ask of Caleb Williams

Ben Johnson wasn’t kidding when he said he was ripping the Chicago Bears offense down to the studs.

There is going to be a back-to-basics tour for Caleb Williams and the Bears offense this offseason as the team builds up toward the 2025 regular season. On the agenda for Chicago’s QB1 will be a test from Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson as he seeks to find Williams’ “comfort level” under center. Johnson’s reasoning behind the switch is sound. This is what he had to say on the matter via the team’s official website:

There are some things that we’re going to encourage that he looks to do a little bit differently. He’s been predominantly a shotgun quarterback for most of his high school and college career, and so he’s very comfortable there. We’re going to work to see the comfort level under center and how much of that applies. We had a lot of success where I was last, that going under center for the run game did translate in play action.”

Changes being made with rhyme and reason? These aren’t the Chicago Bears I grew up watching!
