Caleb Williams Practices with the Bears for the First Time at Rookie Mini Camp

The future is now at Halas Hall, friends.

“Consistently accurate” is how CHGO’s Nicholas Moreano described Caleb Williams’ first practice in a Bears uniform today. The videos circulating social media reflect as much.

That’s good, considering Bears head coach Matt Eberflus already named Williams the team’s starting quarterback, leaving no doubt that this regime was not going to repeat one of the mistakes made by their predecessors in which the team remained mum and tried to either play the process off as some legitimate competition before, ultimately start the veteran, and then toss the rookie to the wolves in a knee-jerk panic when their jobs are on the line.

Caleb Williams is the Bears' future, which started today as the team opened a weekend rookie minicamp at Halas Hall.

Williams spoke to the media this morning before practice and made it clear that he’s here to learn and be led before he takes the reigns as the team’s leader on the field.

“To be a great leader, you’ve got to learn how to follow first. Right now, I’m following all the vets, following all the coaches. I’m listening. Having both ears open, and my mouth shut. Just kind of sitting back and listening. And then when I get to the point of when I learn everything, when I learn the ways of how we do the culture, the playbook, and what the offensive line, receivers, running backs, and tight ends are all doing then you can start taking the lead. For right now though, I’m listening more than I’m speaking and talking. And I’m taking it one step at a time.”

Williams also noted that he’s been working on the Bears offense with his private coach for some time now and is already familiar with the cadences, drops, and terminology.

“You always want to get ahead if you can. With those things that they gave me, I would take it to my QB training, and we would use the cadence, we would use the drops, we would use all of those things, so that’s not something that’s on my mind throughout the process of when I already got here. So, for sure, that’s something you always want.”

What a time to be a Chicago Bears fan, friends.
