We’re still early in Year 3 of the Caleb Williams Experience, but there is a lot to like about his game.
He makes big plays in big moments. With his arms. With his legs. With his ability to draw a defender offsides because of his cadence. It has been fun to watch. But my favorite thing about Williams is that he is always improving something.
For instance, we saw Williams cut his sack rate in a huge way. It wasn’t just about avoiding sacks, mind you. Instead, it was more about playing on time, making good and quick decisions, and getting the ball into the hands of playmakers. Going into this year, the knock on Williams was his accuracy rate. And while we still have 10 games to go this season, the early returns suggest that QB1 has made the adjustments in this area of his game.
Williams has the NFL’s second-highest completion percentage (71.0%) behind Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. That number represents a jump of 9.7 percentage points from his career mark of 61.3% and leap of 12.9 percentage points from the 58.1% completion rate Williams finished with last year. Of course, completion percentage doesn’t tell the whole story. But when you look at more numbers, you begin seeing that Williams makes a strong case for being listed as the NFL’s most accurate quarterback.
