Coby White Falls One Point Shy of Career-High in Bulls Win Over Charlotte

The Chicago Bulls are a tough watch these days. They would be even harder to watch if it wasn't for Coby White.

Man, Coby White has been such a blessing for Bulls fans this season. White's big night fueled a Chicago victory in a game in which the Bulls looked like they wanted to allow the Hornets to take one from them.

Coby White knew what he had to do in the face of a potential second loss to a team the Bulls were expected to beat. In the third quarter, the 23-year-old scored 10 points and logged three assists, including an impressive one-handed jam, to keep the Bulls in the game.

Without his effort, the Bulls would not have found themselves tied at 86-86 heading into the fourth quarter— where White continued his takeover, scoring another 10 points with three assists in the final frame. During this fourth, he assisted on three straight baskets, two to Ayo Dosunmu and one to Andre Drummond, from the 8:50 mark to the 7:42 mark.

The Bulls then led comfortably at 101-92, and it was all Bulls from there. White finished with 35 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds, one point shy of his career-high. White's high-level decision-making across the board won Chicago the game, making it clear that he is a complete player.

Then there’s this …

“With a week remaining before the NBA’s trade deadline, few within or around the Chicago Bulls organization anticipate the franchise making a major move,” Mayberry wrote.

“If the Bulls swing a deal before the Feb. 8 deadline, most will be surprised. It’s not that the Bulls can’t make a trade, but there’s a prevailing belief that the front office won’t commit to something substantial.” - The Athletic’s Darnell Mayberry.

According to Mayberry, the Bulls plan on standing pat at the trade deadline next week. Stop me if you’ve heard that before.

What exactly is the plan here for the Bulls?

Why wouldn't they move on from Zach LaVine?

Why wouldn’t they get something back in exchange for impending free agent DeMar DeRozan?

If nothing else, moving LaVine and DeRozan would provide the Bulls with ample minutes to spread around their young guys who have trouble cracking the rotation on a team whose highest (realistic) aspirations are the Play-In Tournament.

The Chicago Bulls have to understand that it’s time to hit the reset button. As constructed, they’ve peaked. They’re not getting any more out of this team. The continuity (big-time air quotes there) spiel is as stale as this roster.

It’s time to make changes. So, why wait until the offseason? Well, other than Uncle Jerry wanting to sell a few meaningless “playoff” tickets this spring. Time is a flat circle, especially when it comes to Reinsdorf-owned teams.
