Coby White, Zach LaVine Shine in Bulls Victory over the Rockets

No, I’m not drinking the “Are the Bulls actually good Kool-Aid.” But I am excited to see Zach LaVine looking like a player that a team that is actually good would want on their team down the stretch

“DeRozan, to Coby White for three!”

“Kaboom! Kaboom!”

Did you catch the tandem call by Adam Amin and Stacey King last night on Coby White’s dagger triple in overtime last night!?

It’s been a while since I’ve felt a Bulls broadcast call like that one last night. It was reminiscent of the Bulls of a couple of years ago, pre-Lonzo Ball injury when the team was fun to watch night in and night out.

ICYMI:

White’s three-pointer gave the Bulls a 123-119 lead over the Rockets in overtime last night. It would be the final nail in the coffin in an exciting win over an exciting young Rockets team that plays with a heck of pace and flavor.

Before White’s three-pointer came Zach LaVine’s triple that gave the Bulls the lead for good.

LaVine had his best game since his return to the lineup last week, scoring 25 points while adding 13 rebounds and seven assists. Coby White led the Bulls in scoring with 30 points while notching eight assists on the night.

Just like that, the Bulls have won three straight and are just three games under .500 on the season at 18-21. They’re in the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference, just a few games behind the Orlando Magic for the next spot in the conference standings.

No, I’m not drinking the “Are the Bulls actually good Kool-Aid.” But I am excited to see Zach LaVine looking like a player that a team that is actually good would want on their team down the stretch. I’m also pretty excited that Coby White continues to look excellent.

A Quick Note

Yesterday I received some feedback on the newsletter. Some positive. Some not. Both were appreciated. I’m always open to constructive feedback. After all, this is our newsletter. It’s mine, because it’s my passion project at work. It’s yours because it’s only a success if it becomes a valuable addition to your day.

I heard from a reader yesterday who said that the newsletter has helped him stay current with his favorite teams despite his time to consume sports being shortened due to a new baby at home.

That’s terrific.

I heard from a fan wanting more Cubs content. That’s something that will indeed happen, especially as we inch closer to baseball season. We’ve got a whole summer ahead for Cubs talk!

But like I said, I loved both bits of feedback. I want every subscriber to feel like they have a voice. Don’t hesitate to reach out. You can reply directly to the newsletter, email me ([email protected]), or DM me on X (@PatrickKFlowers).

To that effect, I want to introduce a recurring segment in the newsletter. I don’t know what we’ll call it, but it’ll be a place for you to be heard.

Got a Chicago sports question?

Got an opinion on something in Chicago sports?

I want to hear it!

You can send your questions or takes to me by responding to the newsletter, via email (listed above), or on social media (also listed above).

All right, back to business!

Bye, Bye, Getsy

Five coaches at Halas Hall got their walking papers today. None were head coach Matt Eberflus, who will be sticking around for the 2024 season. Luke Getsy, the Bears’ Pop Warner offense author for the past two seasons, was one of those five coaches.
