“DeRozan, to Coby White for three!”
“Kaboom! Kaboom!”
Did you catch the tandem call by Adam Amin and Stacey King last night on Coby White’s dagger triple in overtime last night!?
It’s been a while since I’ve felt a Bulls broadcast call like that one last night. It was reminiscent of the Bulls of a couple of years ago, pre-Lonzo Ball injury when the team was fun to watch night in and night out.
ICYMI:
White’s three-pointer gave the Bulls a 123-119 lead over the Rockets in overtime last night. It would be the final nail in the coffin in an exciting win over an exciting young Rockets team that plays with a heck of pace and flavor.
Before White’s three-pointer came Zach LaVine’s triple that gave the Bulls the lead for good.
LaVine had his best game since his return to the lineup last week, scoring 25 points while adding 13 rebounds and seven assists. Coby White led the Bulls in scoring with 30 points while notching eight assists on the night.
Just like that, the Bulls have won three straight and are just three games under .500 on the season at 18-21. They’re in the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference, just a few games behind the Orlando Magic for the next spot in the conference standings.
No, I’m not drinking the “Are the Bulls actually good Kool-Aid.” But I am excited to see Zach LaVine looking like a player that a team that is actually good would want on their team down the stretch. I’m also pretty excited that Coby White continues to look excellent.
A Quick Note
Yesterday I received some feedback on the newsletter. Some positive. Some not. Both were appreciated. I’m always open to constructive feedback. After all, this is our newsletter. It’s mine, because it’s my passion project at work. It’s yours because it’s only a success if it becomes a valuable addition to your day.
I heard from a reader yesterday who said that the newsletter has helped him stay current with his favorite teams despite his time to consume sports being shortened due to a new baby at home.
That’s terrific.
I heard from a fan wanting more Cubs content. That’s something that will indeed happen, especially as we inch closer to baseball season. We’ve got a whole summer ahead for Cubs talk!
But like I said, I loved both bits of feedback. I want every subscriber to feel like they have a voice. Don’t hesitate to reach out. You can reply directly to the newsletter, email me ([email protected]), or DM me on X (@PatrickKFlowers).
To that effect, I want to introduce a recurring segment in the newsletter. I don’t know what we’ll call it, but it’ll be a place for you to be heard.
Got a Chicago sports question?
Got an opinion on something in Chicago sports?
I want to hear it!
You can send your questions or takes to me by responding to the newsletter, via email (listed above), or on social media (also listed above).
All right, back to business!
Bye, Bye, Getsy
Five coaches at Halas Hall got their walking papers today. None were head coach Matt Eberflus, who will be sticking around for the 2024 season. Luke Getsy, the Bears’ Pop Warner offense author for the past two seasons, was one of those five coaches.
Quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert, running backs coach Omar Young, and assistant tight ends coach Tim Zetts will join Getsy as former Bears coaches.
According to FOX Sports, the Bears ranked 20th in the league this season in total offense, averaging 323.2 yards per contest. Chicago ranked 27th in passing offense with 182.1 yards per game despite ranking second in the league in rushing offense with 141 yards per game.
The Chicago Bears will search for two new coordinators this offseason and return Matt Eberflus as the head coach for a third season in 2024.
Yesterday’s Best
CHICAGO BEARS
Did you miss the Ryan Poles/Matt Eberflus end-of-season press conference? Luis has you covered here with 5 things we learned about the future of the Bears on Wednesday.
We also learned the first name on the Bears OC interview list late last night. The Bears have requested to interview Seahawks OC Shane Waldron.
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Blackhawks rookie Connor Bedard underwent surgery to repair his fractured jaw, and the team confirmed on Wednesday that he will miss the next 6-8 weeks.
Blackhawks prospect Ethan Del Mastro will represent the Rockford IceHogs at the AHL All-Star Game!
CHICAGO BULLS
Eli has more on the Bulls’ thrilling overtime victory over the Rockets last night:
CHICAGO CUBS
The Chicago Cubs’ deal with lefty Shota Imanaga features some complicated numbers, but Brett has you covered with the math.
He also answers the important next question: how does the Shota Imanaga signing impact the market and, more importantly, the Cub’s plans?
What’s on deck?
The Chicago Blackhawks are in Winnipeg tonight to take on the Jets. Puck drop is set for 7 PM CT on NBC Sports Chicago and ESPN+ (out of market).
With the Chicago Bears submitting a request to speak with Seahawks’ OC Shane Waldron last night, Luis and I decided that there’s no time like now to begin preparing profiles on potential OC candidates. I’ll be putting together a profile on Waldron first thing this morning, and we’ll see where the Bears interview requests take us in the next few days.
Oh, and the same thing applies to the DC job. Should be a fun few weeks at BN Bears!
