Counsel: Expect Rotating DHs
Kyle Tucker might be getting more than just one start at DH in the near future.
When the Cubs lineup came out earlier today and we saw Kyle Tucker plugged in at DH with Seiya Suzuki out in right field, I assumed it was just a way to give Kyle Tucker a half-day off. After all, over his last 102 PAs (a not insignificant sum!), the Cubs star right fielder is slashing just .186/.314/.349 (87 wRC+), which is a bona fide slump … albeit one in which he’s still somehow walking more than he’s striking out. So maybe, I thought, Craig Counsell wanted to help Tucker focus back in on hitting and only hitting by taking a start at DH. But perhaps that’s not entirely the case.
Before tonight’s game, Taylor McGregor caught up with Cubs manager Craig Counsell, who told her to “expect to see more of a rotation at DH with Ian Happ healthy.”
