That was not a particularly fun weekend of baseball. Not only did the Cubs drop each of their last two games against the Cardinals, but the Brewers also took their last two against the Dodgers. So now, the Cubs are back to 5.0 games out of first place. On top of that, Edward Cabrera looked awful, and Dansby Swanson suffered an oblique injury that’ll likely keep him out until (at least) the playoffs.

And now the Cubs have to face a good White Sox team, which is still fighting for a first-round bye in the playoffs on the AL side. In other words, they still have plenty to play for. Oh, also: The last time these two teams met, PCA made himself into a bit of a villain, so tensions are probably even higher than usual.

Also, Shota Imanaga is on the mound tonight with the wind blowing out to left field. To that end, take note: The White Sox have the sixth-best offense vs LHP this season (106 wRC+) with the sixth-most home runs off lefties (49). Speaking of which, that pesky homer problem does seem to have come back for Imanaga, who has now allowed six long balls over his last three games, including three in his last matchup against the Nationals. Only Aaron Nola (30) has given up more home runs than Shota Imanaga has this season (28). And Nola’s got one more start on his ledger.

Imanaga is going up against Luis Castillo (now on the White Sox after a deadline deal), who is coming off his best start by Game Score since April 16, 2023: 7.0 IP, 1H, 0ER, 2BB, 10K. That was his second start with the White Sox, however. And his first went a lot more like the rest of his season: 4.0 IP, 6H, 5ER, 1BB, 5K.
