Cubs Blank the Brew Crew on Sunday

The Chicago Cubs won two of three against the Brewers over the weekend and control the NL Central as we wake up today.

The Cubs capped off their weekend with a commanding 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Nico Hoerner ignited a three-run fifth inning to break a scoreless tie, while Javier Assad delivered six shutout innings on the mound for the Chicago Cubs.

Dansby Swanson contributed with his third home run of the season, securing the Cubs' series win and first place in the National League Central.

Despite Milwaukee's late-game scoring prowess in previous matchups, they couldn't muster any threatening rallies in Sunday's finale. Assad's stellar performance, supported by relievers Yency Almonte and Daniel Palencia, resulted in a combined shutout effort.

Chicago struggled against Milwaukee starter Freddy Peralta early on, managing just one hit through the first four innings. However, Hoerner's two-run double and a wild pitch that allowed him to score gave the Cubs a decisive lead in the fifth.

Swanson's homer and Christopher Morel's RBI single further extended Chicago's lead. Despite leaving runners in scoring position, the Brewers couldn't capitalize, tallying only five hits on the afternoon.
