The Cubs Miserable Stretch Marches On
How far are we from going full throttle on the blow-it-up and planning for the No. 1 pick mode, realistically?
It’s June 18, and Michael is already clicking away at Tankathon to see the Cubs land the No. 1 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. A little early for that? Probably. But I can see why Cubs fans would be in that state of mind these days. It’s been a brutal stretch of baseball for Chicago that’s lasted the better part of the last two months at this point.
But how far are we from going full throttle on the blow-it-up and planning for the No. 1 pick mode, realistically? Well, the Cubs are 34-39 entering play today, own the third-worst record in the National League and the sixth-worst overall.
Fangraphs has the Cubs’ playoff odds at 18.5 percent with a 7.2 percent of winning the National League Central. On April 26, before this disastrous stretch began, they were at 64.5 percent to make the postseason and 40.6 percent to win the division.
To say that things have changed drastically would be an understatement. Michael has more on the misery, and Craig Counsell’s face in the featured photo really does say it all.
