Here's What the Chicago Cubs Opening Day Roster, Lineup, and Pitching Rotation Will (Probably) Look Like
We're almost there, friends!
With the Cubs optioning Hayden Wesneski and Alexander Canario to Triple-A Iowa on Monday, we have what will probably be the Opening Day roster that heads to Arlington this week to take on the Rangers.
Here’s the expected group (alphabetically by group):
Starting Pitchers
Javier Assad
Kyle Hendricks
Shota Imanaga
Justin Steele
Jordan Wicks
Relief Pitchers
Yency Almonte
Adbert Alzolay
Jose Cuas
Mark Leiter Jr.
Luke Little
Julian Merryweather
Hector Neris
Drew Smyly
Catchers
Miguel Amaya
Yan Gomes
Infielders
Michael Busch
Garrett Cooper
Nico Hoerner
Nick Madrigal
Miles Mastrobuoni
Christopher Morel
Dansby Swanson
Outfielders
Cody Bellinger
Ian Happ
Seiya Suzuki
Mike Tauchman
As we discussed yesterday, we also have the Cubs' starting rotation (for the time being, with Javier Assad replacing Jameson Taillon).
Here’s what that will look like:
Justin Steele
Kyle Hendricks
Jordan Wicks
Shōta Imanaga
Javier Assad
And as Michael wrote on Monday, the lineup we saw against the Cardinals will likely be the one we see Craig Counsell deploy on Opening Day.
Ian Happ LF
Seiya Suzuki RF
Cody Bellinger CF
Christopher Morel 3B
Dansby Swanson SS
Nico Hoerner 2B
Michael Busch 1B
Yan Gomes C
Mike Tauchman DH
Just like that, we’ve got one more Cactus League game against the Cardinals tomorrow, and then it’s on to baseball that matters on Thursday night. Now you have (very likely) the 26-man roster, starting rotation, and Opening Day lineup.

Brandon Woodruff will not pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2024 as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
Brett has more on Ian Happ’s hamstring injury recovery, which has “plateaued,” but likely won’t keep him out of the Opening Day lineup (as he was playing on Monday).
