Thoughts on the Cubs Trade and Corresponding Roster Moves
The Cubs made a trade last night! Chicago sent utility man Jake Slaughter to Seattle for reliever Tyson Miller. The move prompted some roster moves this morning.
The Cubs made a trade last night! Chicago sent utility man Jake Slaughter to Seattle for reliever Tyson Miller. The move prompted some roster moves this morning.
The Cubs have to add Miller to both the 40-man and 26-man rosters immediately since he has no options. To make room for him, they have designated reliever Richard Lovelady for assignment.
Lovelady, a 28-year-old left-handed pitcher, has been struggling this season, both at Triple-A Iowa and with the Cubs, despite having better underlying statistics. Although Lovelady was a reliable reliever before undergoing Tommy John surgery, there's a possibility he could regain his form over time.
However, due to the Cubs' current bullpen challenges and the need for immediate reinforcement like Miller, Lovelady became the casualty in the roster adjustment.
Brett has more thoughts on today’s roster moves.
