Cubs Blanked by Royals in Michael Busch's Cactus League Debut

It was probably a good thing that yesterday's Cubs game wasn't available to watch on television.

The Cubs were in action on Monday, but unfortunately there was no television broadcast of the game for either team. The Blackhawks and Bulls were off on Monday, and the White Sox game was not televised, so there were no Chicago sports on TV.

It probably ended up being a good thing that the Cubs game wasn’t televised, because it wasn’t a particularly enjoyable performance, losing to the Royals 6-0.

Nick Pratto took starter Hayden Wesneski deep for a three-run home run in the first to give Kansas City and early lead. Wesneski surrendered four earned runs on six hits while striking out one in 1.1 innings on Monday.

Kansas City would score twice more in the seventh and eighth inning and the Cubs managed only six hits on the afternoon. One of those hits belonged to first-baseman Michael Busch, who made his Cactus League debut for the Cubs after missing the first three games of the spring slate while he dealt with some shoulder soreness.

Busch went 1-2 with a walk in his first action with the Cubs in Arizona. Seiya Suzuki, Nick Madrigal, Miles Mastrobuoni, Jorge Alfaro, and Jake Slaughter were the other Cubs to pick up base hits.

Caleb Kilian didn’t throw against Kansas City despite many of the other pitchers that threw on Friday against the White Sox did throw against the Royals. So, perhaps Kilian’s impressive outing on Friday was good enough to get him a start sometime this week.
