MLB Opening Day: Cubs-D'Backs Preview, 26-Man Roster, BN Watch Party, More
Baseball is back, friends.
Cubs vs Diamondbacks — The Cubs dropped both ends of their season-opening series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Tokyo last week, but they’re back at it this weekend with a fresh four-game series to clear the pallet. And by a stroke of luck, they’re managing to miss Corbin Burnes. So they’ve got that going for them. The Cubs will also get Nico Hoerner back this week, pushing Jon Berti to the bench. All things considered, the Cubs were pretty fortunate on the injury side this spring. I’m not taking that for granted.
At the same time, the Diamondbacks will not be an easy matchup. They may not be the Dodgers, but they’re still projected to win more games than the Cubs and are considered the closest challengers to the Dodgers in the NL West. The only upshot is that the Cubs get to start their season (a second time) right back in Arizona, where they already are for spring training. After a trip to Tokyo, and outside of their home in Chicago, that’s as good a location as they could ask for.
