Morel's Homer, Taillon's Gem Leads the Cubs to Victory

Jameson Taillon was excellent and Christopher Morel provided the late-game heroics in last night's Cubs win.

Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon delivered an exceptional performance against the Mets tonight, pitching seven and a third innings of one-run ball in a pitchers' duel against Mets right-hander Luis Severino.

Despite their efforts, both pitchers received no decisions as the Cubs emerged victorious with a 3-1 win at Citi Field. In the ninth inning, Christopher Morel's three-run homer off Mets closer Edwin Díaz secured the Cubs' victory.

Taillon allowed just four hits, with his only mistake being a leadoff homer to Brandon Nimmo in the first inning. He retired 22 of the next 26 batters he faced. The Cubs struggled against Severino until the eighth inning, when they finally got a hit from Dansby Swanson. They scored their first run in the same inning and sealed the win with Morel's late homer.
