As we’ve discussed, the two most common extension targets for teams in Spring Training are pre-arbitration guys you’re trying to ink on very long-term deals, and impending free agents you’re trying to sign before they leave you. For the Chicago Cubs, those two categories each featured an obvious extension candidate this spring, with Pete Crow-Armstrong falling into the former, and Nico Hoerner into the latter.
The Cubs are reportedly on the cusp of getting a deal done with PCA, and, although I want to give that VERY BIG NEWS plenty of its own space to celebrate before moving on to the next thing, it’s only reasonable that questions about Hoerner would pop up.
