REPORT: Cubs Already Browsing the Trade Market for Starters and a “Lockdown Reliever”

How early might the Cubs look to add pitching via the trade market?

Before we even begin to discuss these latest Cubs trade rumors, I’m going to remind you that we are not even out of April … it is ABSURDLY early for this sort of conversation. The Cubs, yes, will be making smaller moves constantly (like yesterday’s Drew Pomeranz addition), but MAJOR trades are always extremely unlikely this early.

Nonetheless, Bruce Levine has clearly heard something about the Cubs’ early intentions on the trade market and it’s worth putting on your radar.

Like Levine, I tend to think it’d be a mistake to expect a trade of any significant magnitude this early in the season. But it’s also fair to note that the Cubs are probably good enough (and certainly have needs great enough) to consider possibly, maybe, POTENTIALLY trying to get something done sooner than, say, July … especially with a President, GM, star player, and closer all on expiring deals.

Okay, we got all that hedging? Let’s continue.
