Tyson Bagent has been the Bears’ backup quarterback for three-plus seasons, and like journeyman Case Keenum, he started against the New York Jets on Sunday for the first time in three years. Like Keenum the week prior, Bagent wasted no time shaking off the rust.
The former undrafted free agent was terrific in the game’s opening series, completing his first five passes for 62 yards and helping the Bears march into the New York red zone. The drive stalled on two D’Andre Swift touchdowns that were reversed and ruled short of the goal line after replay review, plus two incompletions by Bagent, one of which was a throwaway out of the back of the end zone.
