When the Cubs acquired Kyle Tucker over the offseason, they paid a significant price. Not only did they give up three years of control over All-Star 3B Isaac Paredes and five years of control over righty Hayden Wesneski. But also, they traded their 2024 first-round pick, Cam Smith, who was on a clear upward trajectory since the draft. The terms of the trade have always seemed steep, but acquiring true MVP-level talent like Kyle Tucker, even for a single season, tends to be very costly. And of course, with Matt Shaw ahead of him, and having only just reached Double-A, Cam Smith didn’t seem like he’d make it hurt right away. And yet …
According to Jesse Rogers (ESPN), Cam Smith is breaking camp with the Houston Astros.
